    Can't disable "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead"

    I had "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead" greyed out with the registry with the entry below, but I got a notification from MS this morning saying I needed to fix my account and "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead" is no longer grey out and I have looked at Group Policy and it is set to "Users can't add or log on with Microsoft accounts".

    Code:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
    "NoConnectedUser"=dword:00000003

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Settings\AllowYourAccount]
    "value"=dword:00000000
    EDIT: I went outside for about 45 minutes and came back in and checked to see what was going on and the thing was greyed out; totally baffled...

    Why are you worrying about this? Just ignore it like I do.

    Because the other day I had an occasion with signing in online where I ended up with the name of my PC and password getting changed by Microsoft without my approval.

    I started using my three computers with Windows 10 by logging in with my Microsoft account. I changed all three of them to log in with a local account instead. I have had no problems since then.

    Why are logging in online anyways? I don't understand why logging in has anything to do with the name of your computer.

    If you do log in with a Microsoft account it is with an account you create with a username and password you choose. Microsoft has nothing to do with this and will not ever change them.

    Full story. I created an online account to use answers.microsoft.com and they wanted to text me a verification number and I refused to give them my cell number. So I did a chat with a MS rep and he had me create an additional security sign-in and somewhere during this exchange and me creating the addition login, they hack my PC and took it over and when I rebooted, the PC name and password had been changed to match my online account - that's all I know.

    What I did was create a new account with a gmail account and everything works now.

    Are you sure you were communicating with Microsoft? That does not sound like anything they would do.

    Your first mistake was letting someone into your computer. Never let anyone on the outside in no matter who they say they are. Once someone is in who knows what they might do while in there.

    I give out my cell number all the time for verification text messages to be sent. It is a necessary evil we have to put up with. I try to make sure that whoever or whatever is requesting it is legitimate.

    I like a lot of people create a Microsoft account when they install Windows 10 because we are led to believe that is required. This has always annoyed me because it is really not necessary. That is why as soon as I could I switched to logging in using a local account.

    You can see below I have switched to logging in using a local account. You can see that Windows offers to switch back to logging in using my Microsoft account but I ignore it.

    BTW, out of curiosity I switched back to using my Microsoft account to log in. That was a mistake because my Microsoft account password is long and impossible to memorize. It took me an hour to log back in and switch things back.

    In accounts you can see the Microsoft account I have for this computer. It is still there but I normally ignore it. To my annoyance it tries to sync accounts with my other computers. This sometimes annoys me but I think I have it under control now.
