Removing password issues  

I'm working on a friend's desktop trying to get to the bottom of an issue with sleep mode. I've got her to remove her PIN for convenience. After she completed this step and on reboot she was prompted for her old password This was really unexpected and we were fortunate that she still remembered her old password, what if she hadn't?

Anyways on reboot I'm now able to get straight in with no password. But if I wake the computer from sleep/hibernate we are then prompted with another password screen. This cannot surely be by design and is a bug as it makes no sense whatsoever to have a feature like this.

The other irksome behaviour is if we wake the computer and I get the user to once again type in her password we are then presented with a screen which forces us to set a PIN with no option to skip

How on earth can that be a security feature if I can access her account by simply rebooting? Did you not see what I orignally said that if I reboot I can get into the account with no password.

Did you follow his link - it tells you how to turn of the pw prompt on waking. His comment about 'not disabling' is a bit obscure - I think he is referring to removing the pw entirely.

But regardless the situation is ridiculous.

Scenario: If you wake me I'll ask you for a password. If you reboot I won't. Hence the whole reason for a password being active is negated!!

You'd think someone at microsoft would see this and override the futility of the password.

So effectively with this software your PC account admin or not can be hacked and broken into. I've never had to do this but I would have thought there are plenty of instructional videos on YT already telling you how to do this without having to fork out $30.

Hirens I used briefly before but it looks a pretty handy tool to have on hand. Thanks for reminding me about it

Doesn't look like it is. There may be a very cut down trial version.
