I just got a new computer and set it up and then realized my user folder only has the first six letters of my name...if I rename it to my full first name will apps that have already run got messed up because they will be looking for data in the wrong users folder?

YES, use the tutorial linked in post 2 or .. since this is a 'new' computer and if you have very little on it- disconnect from internet, create a new Local Account in Settings/Accounts giving it Admin privilieges. Move all files from Un-desiredName/Documents, Music, Pictures, etc to corresponding folders in NewUserName/Documents, etc. Sign out, sign-in as the New User, verify files are in proper place and delete orig account from Settings/Accounts, reconnect internet, reboot=All Set
It sounds like a pain, I'll learn to live with the folder name as it is I think (I can't deal with stuff not working right now).
I have a similar problem. I’ve just reset the laptop. Should I sign in as a local account first to get my own name in Explorer and then change to my Microsoft account?

That would certainly achieve what you want.
- "sign in as a local account" - create a local accountAdd Local Account or Microsoft Account - TenForumsTutorials- "then change to my Microsoft account" - convert to an MSAccount
Change Account Type - TenForumsTutorials - to make it an Admin account

I reset but with the ‘keep my files’ option. When the laptop restarted, I changed it to a local account but Explorer still showed the first letters which I don’t want.
Any ideas, please?
