I was able to resolve the issue.

Pressing shift button and restart took me to the screen where it gave you the option to choose the "Troubleshoot". I clicked on the Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.

When it is restarted, it gave me the option to enter the safe mode. After booting the machine with safe mode, it prompted the password to login.

I logged in and uncheck the "safe boot". Now, it prompted to enter password to login.

    Thank you for your advice.
    Hi,

I have done what you asked to do and started in safe mode to go and uncheck. But it is already unchecked. I have not gone back again to see if anything is different as I have not been able to uncheck the check because it is already unchecked.

I encountered this problem after a power failure. Has anyone had a similar problem?

    Regards,

    Gary

Managed to get to the login box but then the keyboard would not let me type in my password.

the 1st icon on the RHS had a red cross on it - not sure if this means I should have clicked on safe mode with network.

    Any advice

I had the same issue. I upgraded a year ago from Windows 8 to windows 10. I had to reset my whole pc. When I reset it went back to Windows 8. The computer then started to restart on its own. When I tried to reset my pc again it showed i had windows 10 but it couldnt install it bc I had reset pc to windows 8. What I did was googled windows 8 install with usb drive. I wennt to microsoft site and I was able to reinstall windows 8.1 with my usb and so far it has been working.

For all those that tried everything I did in an effort to get their logon to Win 10 pro to show up at start up. This is the solution without disrupting any of your files. Start the safe mode as instructed on many of the replies. Shutting down by pressing the power button and holding it down then turning it on again and doing this three times in a row. Then go to start, type in run then click on run. Type in “netplwiz” without the quotation marks. In the window that pops up you will have the option to eliminate the requirement of the login window. Then restart your computer and it should go into windows bypassing the requirement to log on.

    .

If you hold down power button until the computer goes off then turn it back on and do this three times, your computer will go into safe mode. You are then able to go into the computer and make changes. Sometimes the caps may have been on when you set the password. Try your password in all caps.
