    Thank you.. going to

Enable or Disable Passwordless Sign-in for Microsoft Accounts

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device

and changing DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion from 2 to 0 fixed it.

Note: I did not have any of the hello stuff turned on on two different laptops and nothing else worked....

I've just set up a new Dell XPS 8940 desktop, running Windows version 20H2, and am experiencing for the first time the problem with netplwiz _not_ showing the “Users Must Enter a User Name and Password to Use This Computer” checkbox. I've skimmed this forum, but other posters' circumstances are not quite the same as mine. Here is my sign-in options screen:

The message in red prompts me to got to the Power & sleep settings to change the requirement for authentication when the PC wakes from sleep, but I have this PC configured to _never_ go to sleep, and I don't find anything at all relevant in those Power & sleep settings.

I don't know what to do at this point. Advice?

See the note in Option One of this tutorial....

If the Require sign-in setting is grayed out with a Authentication is required when this PC wakes from sleep message, then it has been disabled by enabling the Require a password when a computer wakes (plugged in) and/or Require a password when a computer wakes (on battery) policies in Option Three or Option Four.

Thank you! I'll be working on this solution later tonight.

So, I disabled the indicated setting, "Require a password when a computer wakes (plugged in)", in gpedit.msc, and now Sign-in options looks like this:

20H2 Netplwiz no longer has auto login-image.png

Note that the message in red font now says "not required", instead of "required", and the grayed-out dropdown menu now says "Never" instead of "When PC wakes up from sleep".

But netplwiz has _not_ changed; the problem remains.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

    UPDATE:
I've just checked the Sign-in options on two other/older XPS desktops (an 8910 and an 8930), both of which are also running version 20H2. One of them has the Sign-in options showing exactly as shown in my first screenshot above, and the second of the two older PCs has the Sign-in options showing exactly as shown in my second screenshot above. Yet despite those two different configurations (regarding authentication or not when the PC wakes), both of those two other PCs show the "Users Must Enter a User Name and Password to Use This Computer” checkbox in netplwiz. This seems to suggest that the configuration of my sign-in options on my new XPS 8940 is _not_ the cause of this problem with netplwiz.

    ???????

My Accounts settings page shows the 'Requires Windows Hello' option which yours does not. I looked at my netplwiz and also did not have "Users Must Enter a User Name and Password to Use This Computer” checkbox. When I un-checked the Hello option (I do use Hello PIN) as in screenshot, "Users Must Enter a User Name and Password to Use This Computer” checkbox now appears in netplwiz. Why Hello option is not there may be due to your 'gpedit.msc' but that seems to explain why checkbox is missing in netplwiz. Re-enable password option in gpedit.msc and see if you can duplicate my 'Hello' option section. Good Luck

Thanks for your suggestion, but that gpedit change was made earlier tonight as a possible solution to my problem, which existed _before_ I made that gpedit change. So, changing it back would not fix the problem.
