I don't understand how to delete ASP.NET Machine Account

    Hello,

    Windows 10 v2004 x64

I am trying to follow this solution, but I can not find the account that I want to delete

ASP.NET Machine Account Now On Windows 10

Method 1: To delete the account leaving the .NET Framework installed:

On the search bar type Control Panel.
    1) Click on Administrative Tools.
    2) Double click on Computer Management.
    3) Select the Local Users and Groups node.
Double-click the Users sub node and highlight the ASPNET account.
Right click the highlighted account and choose delete.
Collapse this image then expand this image. If you are prompted for an administrator
password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

This will delete the ASP.NET account leaving .NET framework components intact.
    Method 2

I don't want to modify the registry yet, if I can solve the issue with Method 1

Which version of Windows 10 do you have? Specifically, what build number and what release ID, also is it pro or home?

The feature you're discussing is only available in Pro and Enterprise versions. You will likely have to use an alternate method if you have home.

It is me again, Didn't I follow correctly the solution? because #notworking

    I don't understand how to delete ASP.NET Machine Account-01-aspnet-machine-account.jpg

if I delete the account directly from here I could breaking whatever functionality it is providing, in this case ASP.NET 1.1 and the programs that requires this requirements may stop working?

    Code:
Method 2: Answer to hide this account without breaking whatever functionality it is providing:

    • Open Run Command (Windows button + R), a dialog box will pop-up type “regedit” and press Enter.
    • This will open the Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key mentioned below which is located in the left menu pane.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\Userlist Note: If the SpecialAccounts key and Userlist keys do not exist then create them.
    • On the right hand side of Userlist, right-click on any blank space, and point to New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value.
    • Name the new DWORD registry value name exactly with the user name used at the logon screen. (In this case, ASP.NET Machine Account)
    • Double-click on DWORD registry value, and set the value data to 0 in order to hide the account from Welcome Screen. To display the user account on Welcome Screen again so that it’s visible again, delete the registry entry, or set the value data to 1.
Exit Registry Editor. Log off or restart computer to make the change effective.

    @camelia -

It looks to me like you have to create Userlist as a new key by right clicking SpecialAccounts and selecting New/Key from the popup menu. Then select the Userlist key and create your DWORD value for the ASP.NET Machine Account.

    Camelia,

You need to search for a different solution. The replies in the MSA thread you linked to show that the suggested procedure did not work.

Hello, it looks like you enabled some features that require old or unneeded technology.

    you can try, go to:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
Click on "Turn Windows features on or off"

    here disable:
    IIS, Internet information technologies (both)
    .NET Framework 3.5
    .NET Framework 4.8 -> ASP.NET 4.8

Disable anything that you manually enabled at some point (ex. while experimenting with features)
You don't need many features enabled here except:
    1. Windows defender
    2. Windows PowerShell
    3. Remote differencial compression API

The rest is mostly not needed and brings things one usually doesn't need.
    reboot system.

    Provide additional information:
You can take a look into:
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP"
See what .NET frameworks you have installed.

Did you install any program that required old .NET technology? ex. the program you to installed asked you to install additional Windows features?

    Hi @zebal

    Yes, this very old app

    I don't understand how to delete ASP.NET Machine Account-picture_motion_browser.jpg

That is why I am looking for a modern alternative here

I can uninstall it, but after removing the app will I still have the second account?

    Thanks

I don't know, but if you do so you might need to manually disable installed features as told before.
That's the only way to verify.
