    Windows 10 Account Password Trouble...


    Hello,

    After the most recent W10 update I have an account/password problem with my SyncBack Free software. To work unattended while I sleep it needs my Windows password for authorisation. That goes ok. But whenever I want to CHANGE one of the Syncback jobs, it asks for my Windows password again (Syncback in itself does not require a password, only for unattended jobs - and a modified job is seen as a new job).
    If I fill in my CORRECT Windows password it will NOT work again: wrong password, it says. Even when after numerous attempts I CHANGED my Windows password correctly.
    I thought it was a SYNCBACK issue. But now I think Windows10 is to blame.
    Today after trying to get SYNCBACK doing its jobs, there SUDDENLY was a Microsoft windows popup saying they had to fix an issue with one of my accounts (I only have one). I agreed, they said they would fix it - and confirmed that.
    But the issue with SYNCBACK is still existing.

    Does anyone recognize or understand that problem? And can help?

    The sync shouldn't need a password it should be the task that needs one there should be an option to run as system

    It should not, perhaps. But it does. Has been like that since the beginning. But was never a problem.
    Now W10 seems to mess up the passwords...

    If you open the credential manager, under Windows Credentials is windows saving a password for SYNCBACK.

    If you delete this entry and then retry does it accept it?



    Sounds like you are using a Microsoft Account to log in, is that correct?


    Is your Microsoft Account verified in Windows 10 account settings, first panel "Your Info"
    (Start > Settings > Accounts > Your Info)

    Yes, my Microsoft Account has been verified.
    After the unexpected alert message 'we have to fix your account' Microsoft changed or reset something and I got no further Microsoft remarks.
    In Windows Credentials (new for me, never used) there is NO password saved for SyncBack.
    Since my SyncBack account is a free one, I am not entitled to get their support.

    But they did give me the suggestion to delete the job that keeps asking for a password and recreate it again.
    I will try that and report...

    PS Terminology is often confusing. Sometimes I need a Microsoft account, then a Windows account to do something....

    To sign into Windows you can use either a "Local" account or a "Microsoft Account".

    A local account is just that, local to your machine. It has a name, like Ken, and the password is stored on machine. When I use a local account I always create a second local admin account on machine in case I have issues with my profile.

    A Microsoft account can allow you a single sign on id for all MS properties. (Xbox, email, Office, Windows, Skype). If there is an issue you can use another machine to sign into your Microsoft account online and change / fix your password.


    Per say there is no such thing as a Windows account. In MS language, for Windows, it is either Local or Microsoft account. Apps should likely be asking for the password you use to sign into windows.
