Sign-in options: Require sign-in "When PC wakes up from sleep" missing

    Hello,

I recently migrated from Windows 7 and am trying to mimic the experience I had in regards to sleep/wake. The way I have my power options set up is for the display to turn off after 10 minutes, and for it never to sleep on its own. If I want it to sleep, I'll press the power button.

The current behavior is that Windows does not ask for a password ever, except for after restarting/shutting down. It does not ask for a password when the display is off and I press a key, or when the computer wakes from manually-induced sleep. See below for current state for requiring password:
    Shut down: Yes
    Restart: Yes
    Sleep Wake: No
    Display off: No

The desired behavior is for it to not ask for a password or display the logon screen when the display is off and I press a key, but to ask for it every time the computer wakes from manually-induced sleep. See below for desired state for requiring password:
    Shut down: Yes
    Restart: Yes
    Sleep Wake: YES
    Display off: No

I've read many articles on many websites stating that the solution is to to go to the Settings app, Sign-in options, Require sign-in, and set it to "When PC wakes up from sleep", but this option does not appear for me. Instead, I see the option "Never" and a bunch of time intervals. When I search for this problem on Google, all I get are the type of articles I just described, which do not answer my question.

    Things I have tried:
-Looking over power options in control panel. Does not mention asking for password
-Setting the "On resume, display logon screen" option in screensaver settings, but this comes packaged with a time interval, which I don't want.
-Checking under Lock screen settings, but this is under Personalization, so I didn't expect much, and didn't get much. There is no option there.
    -powercfg /SETACVALUEINDEX SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_NONE CONSOLELOCK 1 (and DC)

Before you ask, here is some other information:
-I am on Windows 10 Home, version 1909, build 18363.1016. This is a Lenovo Ideapad 5.
-It cannot be that the expected behavior happens on battery and not while plugged in, or vice versa, because all of my settings do not differentiate between the two states.
-I am not using a Microsoft account, I am using a local account with administrator privileges.
-HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Settings\AllowSignInOptions value is set to 1. The other sign-in options work as intended.

If you need any more information, do not hesitate to ask. My Windows 7 build did this out of the box (after setting power options) and it is frustrating to me that Windows 10 changed that.

Hello Trevor, and welcome to Ten Forums.

The "Require Sign-in" setting will only be available if your account has a password. However, this will only affect at wakeup (ex: from sleep) and not for when the display turns off.

Turn On or Off Require Sign-in on Wakeup in Windows 10

You can use the tutorial below to delete the DelayLockInterval DWORD value to never require sign-in after the display turns off, or change its value to a time you want instead.

    Hi Brink,

Thanks for welcoming me. I'm glad to be here.

I am indeed using a password on my account, not Windows Hello or anything else.

This is exactly the behavior I want. I went through the page you linked.

I tried option one, but "When PC wakes up from sleep" is not there, which is what I stated my original problem to be. It seems to be there for everyone else.

I tried option two as well, but "Change settings that are currently unavailable" does not show up in advanced power settings for me. My account is an administrator if that makes a difference.

I tried option three previously, as I mentioned in my last post.

Option four is not available as I am on Windows 10 Home, which I also mentioned.

I tried option five and it did not work as well. Upon waking from sleep, my desktop and any previously open programs pop up instead of the lock screen.

I'm not sure if your second suggestion would help since the current behavior already does not require sign-in after the display turning off.

Do you have any further suggestions? Thank you

As a test, try using step 4 in option 5 to disable require sign-in on wakeup may work for you.

I just tried step 4 in option 5 to disable require sign-in on wakeup. This changed nothing.

Again, the current behavior already does NOT require sign-in on wakeup. The desired behavior is for it to indeed REQUIRE sign-in on wakeup.

If anything, step 3 in option 5 would fix it, but as I mentioned in my last post, this did NOT fix it either.

Is there anything else I could try? If not, I will open a new thread where I state my original problem in more clear terms. Perhaps I gave too much information and it became confusing about what my issue was. I simply wanted to be thorough to eliminate the need for "try restarting your machine" or "have you changed this setting that does exactly what you want".

Sorry, I was under the false assumption you want to disable it.

I must admit that I'm not sure why you do not have the "Require sign-in" setting since your account does have a password.

Please go ahead and post a screenshot showing these settings to see if anything may stand out.

    This shows my settings app:
Sign-in options: Require sign-in "When PC wakes up from sleep" missing-settings1.png
This shows the dropdown. It does not have the "When PC wakes up from sleep" option. Instead, I see the option "Never" and a bunch of time intervals.

Ah, ok. You have a device (ex: tablet or 2-in-1) that supports modern standby.

When the display turns off, this is more or less the same as sleep with modern standby, and is why it will always require sign-in on wakeup by default.

How does it behave when set to the default "Every Time"?

My device is not a tablet nor is it a 2-in-1. It is a standard touchscreen laptop, a Lenovo Ideapad 5. If it does support modern standby, is there a way to turn this off? My old laptop would treat "display off" as only that, sort of like turning a monitor on or off. Programs can still run in the background and I believe autohotkey scripts that enter keyboard input would still run with the display off.

When I select "Every Time" then it will ask for password as soon as the display turns off (e.g. every 10 minutes without input). I'd rather this not happen.

Just to verify, check using the tutorial below to see if your computer is shown to support Modern Standby.
