My Windows 10 Sign In is broken - Tried everything.

    Hey.

So I reset my PC because for whatever reason my Windows 10 Sign in was broken. I was unable to Sign into the Windows Store, Insider Previews, nothing related to the settings menu lets me sign into my Windows account. However, my Windows 10 is activated. As a result, I can't use any features that require signing in, because windows doesn't let me sign in.

    Microsoft support is useless.

    Things I've tried:
    - WSReset
    - System Restore to Previous Updates
    - Safe Mode with Networking
    - Resetting the PC completely - Worked fine until updating Windows again.

Here is a video of what happens. I'm on Build 19041 and I do not want to have to Reset my PC again. Then I have to set everything back up for work a 3rd time, and it's going to overall be a complete pain in the ass.

Hi, unfortunately I can barely make out the text on your video.

Which reset option did you use?

It looks as if you can log in; do you have a local or MS live id account?

You say you have build 19041 - I noted a reference to Insider Programs?

Note that an in-place upgrade repair install is far less destructive than a reset, and removes almost nothing.

Please note that thread bumping is disallowed under forum rules. Thanks.

I used the Keep my Files option.

However, it *was* working until I updated windows again.

Maybe I would be able to get away with this in-place upgrade repair. I'll try that.

    Thank you for your reply.

Ok, could you state which update that was please?

It's unlikely an in-place upgrade repair would help now- I simply mentioned it by comparison with a reset- different things for different purposes.

These are the only updates that have been done.

Things stopped working again after the 8/22 update. I tried rolling back the update, but that did nothing, so I'm lost.

    Those seem relatively trivial.

You could try e.g. options 3,4 here:
Windows 10 Cannot Sign into Microsoft Account, How to Fix It

and try Tweaking.com's free repair tool to reset services for example- follow the steps and select only appropriate repairs.

Something somewhat similar here, where an in-place upgrade repair did help- bear in mind that does a lot, including resetting services, so suggest you try that first.
Cant sign into my Microsoft Account

You can confirm whether this is a user profile issue (which an in-place upgrade repair won't address) by creating a new user for test purposes, logging in as that user. If you don't then see the same problem, an in-place upgrade repair is unlikely to help.

I'm trying the tweaking.com tool now.

Perhaps my SSD is going bad? I've had it for a while, I bought the Samsung NVMe 960 Pro when they literally came out (I pre-ordered the 500 GB back when 500 GBs were still like $320 a pop.) I've had Windows do some wonky stuff in the past with an old Intel 510 SSD I bought when the first got released. It started doing wonky stuff because of bad sectors, so I replaced it with a Crucial MX300 back in 2016 that I actually ended up RMAing in 2018, and bought the 960 Pro.

A little over 2 years seems like a short time for failure of a NVMe drive though?

EDIT: Its a 960 Pro, not a 970, so it came out in 2016. I knew I paid like $300 something for that sucker. So the SSD is 4 years old.

You can check its SMART params easily e.g. with Crystal Diskinfo.

Tweaking.com's tool did not seem to resolve the issue.

    Trying an in-place upgrade now.
