"There is a problem with your Microsoft account" message

This is a tangly issue for me. Earlier this week, when I signed in to my work computer, there was a message saying:
There is a problem with your Microsoft account. To fix this, sign in to account.live.com from a browser.
It's a legitimate Microsoft message; you can find lots of pages online talking about it, but many are from Microsoft itself, with "copy/paste" one-size-fits-all ill-fitting "solutions."

I have not had a functionality problem with the computer, or with my copy of Office, this week. All work fine. So I'm inclined to ignore the error, except I hate having unresolved error messages.

The "tangle" I refer to in the issue is that the message doesn't even mention WHICH "Microsoft account" this pertains to. I have my Office suite set up using my work email and a unique-to-Office password. But on the same computer, I have a free-to-nonprofit Office environment set up in my browser, for volunteer work I do, and that has separate login credentials, and that also works fine.

I've used the Shared Experience settings too, to try to fix this, but, not knowing WHICH account is being referred to, and having everything work fine anyway, confuses me and doesn't give me much impetus to "fix" a problem that doesn't affect me, except for not liking the messages.

Suggestions? I want things to keep working - as they are - but I also want the error messages to stop pestering me.

I believe the account in question will be the one you are using to log into Windows, not one associated with email (via Office) nor one accessed via your browser.

Thanks. So what do I do? Clicking on "Fix This" in the shared experiences section takes me to an accounts.microsoft.com page, to which I'm already logged in. Returning to the settings, I then have a 0x80190005 error.

Is there a Register edit I can do to fix whatever's triggering the message?

No Reg edit that I know of. When this has happened to me, MS wanted me to verify my account - I can't recall what I did to pass verification. I would suggest logging out of the MS account web page, then log out of Windows, then (maybe after a re-start) log back in to Windows and follow the 'Fix this' again - it may be that when logging in to the web page, some light may be shed on the issue. You are clearly not alone with that error number: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...eb9512e?page=1

Were/are you using a Pin? If so, try turning it off, restart and try to set it up again. The Pin system sometimes gets its knickers in a twist.

Under the Accounts setting in the Main Settings panel there should be something like "Fix your account" along with the standard "Manage my Microsoft account" and "Sign in with a local account instead". This happened to me once, and confirming my account info there fixed it for me.

I followed the instructions at How To Stop The "Microsoft Account Problem" Notification | Bruceb Consulting (that is, turning off the "nearby sharing and "share across devices" switches from the "shared experience" settings). I will give that a few days and see if that fixes things.

    Hello asus2016,

In addition, you should also normally be able to use option 1 below to fix this Microsoft account problem.

Add or Remove Trusted Devices for Microsoft Account

I followed the steps and am now getting a message from the "Shared Experiences" setting that "All accounts are working correctly." Thanks.
