How to remove someone else's email from my account?

    Hello,

I recently had a friend over who logged into their Xbox account on my Windows 10 PC. After they left, I went to use Chrome on the same PC, but this happened:

This was totally expected, because my Windows account is NOT part of a family. So I went to account settings and found that my account is now tied to my friend's email:

And my PC is now part of my friend's family:

So, somehow, when my friend signed into Xbox, their email was tied to my account. And because their parents have restricted them from using Chrome (lame), I can't use Chrome either. How can I remove my friend's email from my account? Can I remove their family from my PC? I would greatly appreciate any help with this.

My Windows version number is 19041.

    Hello @AndrewUpACreek,

    Welcome to Tenforums!

Have you tried this => Add or Remove Child Member for Microsoft Family Group in Windows 10.

    I hope this helps!

Hi @Paul Black, thanks for the suggestion. My friend is a child member in their family, but I don’t want to remove my friend from their family because I’m sure their parents would not want that. What I’m hoping is that there’s a way to remove my friend’s email from my account and turn it back into a local account.

I would remove him and then have them add him back.

    Gain control over you device.

Ok, I’ll give it a try and report back.

Ok so my friend just removed themself from their family and I got this notification:

And I am removed from the family:

But my account is still tied to their email:

Any chance you enabled restore points?

If so I would restore to a point prior to your friend messing this up.

I think this system still has ties to "Family" as you have two icons of heads in your screen shot.

Normally there is an option to switch to local account which is not present in yours. Some searching did not find a way to invoke. Multiple threads suggest creating another local admin account and copying your data over.

Were you using a local account before or a MS account.

I would also strongly recommend you consider Imaging your machine. Lots of free tools out there and a quick restore is a fast and reliable recovery. This is one such tool.

Unfortunately I never set up restore points. It's so funny you mention Macrium because I installed it previously but hadn't gotten around to making an image! So I ended up just transferring everything to a new local account like you suggested (my old account was local before this). It took a long time but it was a good opportunity to weed out some software and files I no longer need. I learned my lesson though—I'm definitely going to be diligently backing up my computer from now on. Thanks for your help!

As part of installing and using Macrium create and test their rescue (boot) media. By test I mean boot from it and confirm you can see your Image(s) on your external drive.
