    Permission Entry WindowsApps - Corrupt

    Hi

Added myself as admin an admin user to have full control of thisfolder in order to be able to view contents for a reason that is is irrelevant to the current problem.

Stupidly I did not screenshot the list of permissions before making the change which did not see to properly stick with error messages as in screenshots1 and 2.

Leaving me with an error message on the users entry of corrutoion and to delete and recreate. I ran sfc which reported that it had found some corrupt files and successfully repaired them. But I am left as in screenshots 3 and 4 and canot see how I delete that entry and do not even know if I should replace it were I to be able to delete it.

If anyone can shed any light, particularly on what the defaut settings would be (shoudl that user entry be there - I think I added it!). And if not how I go abotu deleting it. Presumably once deleted then I coudl recreate it?

Is this an issue of being signed in as that user, preventing the deletion of that user entry?

    What I have:

Like you said, don't change permissions unless you can fully revert them after a temporary change.

It's better to use a file manager that can bypass rights checking instead of messing with permissions.

Taking ownership of windowsapps folder - failed to process?

It's odd, I don't see that window with those two checkboxes, and didn't see it when I made the changes - should have checked out the source of the instructions! Is it screwed now then?

Will a restore of some sort put it right? Although I may not bother unless I find it has caused other issues.

Well I can't get to the same tab as you without changing permissions and I won't do that on system folders.

I'm not exactly expert on restoring permissions as I always use third party apps to make changes then restore original permissions.

Personally I always have a system image backup available before messing about. Then I can restore it if problems arise.

I've never relied on system restore and know that it doesn't monitor everything. You could try it and see if you're locked out of permissions on that folder (as it should be).

    FYI:

    Permission Entry WindowsApps - Corrupt-windows-apps-1.jpg

    So I cancel that.

Then I can access the folder and modify contents without changing permissions using other utilities.

    Or use Q-Dir:

Windows 10 all apps folder (open, find, delete, cleen)?

    Have you tried ---dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ---.
Sfc uses files specific to your computer, with the result that if the system files are corrupt, that's how they stay.
dism on the other hand goes online to Microsoft and uses those fresh files, which might fix the issue.
If that doesn't work,a clean install may be the only practical solution.

Open System Restore and roll back from a recent restore point before you made the change.
