    Cannot VERIFY Identity

I cannot VERIFY my identity in my account. When I try I get the unhelpful response that 'something' went wrong. I have issues possibly related to this, such as the fact that my main email account which is part of my identity (Outlook) has stopped working and attempts to fix it in Mail fail, and I cannot refresh my PIN or sign in on Edge. Fortunately the PIN I use to sign in to Windows after booting still works.

    Hi,
I've also had troubles to verify my identity after clean install of Windows 10. I use an ordinary email but didn't get the verification code from Microsoft so I've replaced my security info with my phone number and will try again when the info is updated.

Using 2FA by any chance? :)

After logging into Windows have you checked that your ISP provides Webmail/Online E-Mail you can access through your browser?

Thank you all for the suggestions --- I will get to work on them right away. All three of my email accounts became unavailable but I remembered I can access them online as a temporary service, plus I remembered today I have kept Flow Mail on my PC for just this situation (it is a front end for my three online accounts). I have accessed my Yahoo BT account through it and updated the password so it is now back on my PC. Iwill see if that also works for the other 2. Outlook is the important one as it is needed for many things.

I do use 2 Factor, but not for my Outlook Mail account, yet. It seems odd to me that I can still access Windows, and check my details online, while I cannot use Outlook Mail and have not been able to Verify my identity in Settings.

Are any of your email accounts Microsoft accounts?

"Outlook is the important one as it is needed for many things."
--- Unfortunately "you cannot use Outlook Mail and have not been able to Verify my identity in Settings."
--- It may not be necessary to put this in writing but the most important part is staying focused on the issue at hand.
--- How long has that been going on?
--- Any idea of what might be part of the problem?

I believe the two websites that have been posted should be checked.

How to verify your Outlook.com account
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...6-1bb1314caba9

How do I verify my Outlook.com account?
Sign in to verify your Outlook.com account.
When you click the verification link, you're asked to type a series of random characters as shown in a picture. You can listen to an audio file that states the characters if you prefer. By entering the characters as shown, you prove that you're a human and not an automated program.
--- It appears you can sign-in to your Outlook account but you cannot use it because you cannot verify your identity and you “get the unhelpful response that 'something' went wrong.”
--- Can you post the exact “verify your identity” screenshot or at least the exact verbiage?
--- Also, the “'something' went wrong” screenshot or at least the exact verbiage?
--- I’ve seen some different messages being reported when googling those items.

    Next
Run SFC /SCANNOW using Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Run as administrator)
“Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations”.
“Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.”
--- If you get either one of those results, that’s good. I usually restart the PC even though the results are good.
If you get a different result such as,
“Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.”
Let us know which messages you get.

    Continue with
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth using Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Run as administrator)
I have seen “The restore operation completed successfully.” Followed by The operation completed successfully.”
--- Give it a few extra seconds at the end to ensure that’s the case.
--- I usually restart the PC even though the results are good.
I haven’t seen one fail yet.
Let us know which message you get.

If there isn’t a successful outcome, restart the PC and repeat both procedures.

NOTE: I’ve seen recommendations to run them in opposite order but I’m not sure if it really matters.
The reason I use the order I do is because I’ve seen SFC /SCANNOW report results differently than
“Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations”.
“Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.”
    --- When that happens, I know it’s necessary to move on & run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
