how to reset the proper permissions on the Windows 10 system folders.

    Hello to everyone,

for disk space needs I have copied the "file and folders" folders on another disk while I was running Linux. When I have logged in Windows 10 again,I have encountered various problems. Infact as soon as Windows starts I don't see all the services that it started before to move the file and folders and I'm not able anymore to open images because it says that there are permission problems. So,I want to restore / reset all the permissions in the proper way. I tried with this command, going inside the "file and folders" folders and on C:\

    Code:
    ICACLS * /T /Q /C /RESET
    this is what happens :

what to so is written in this site :

this is not the solution, because after giving that command I saw that the problems are still there. What can I do ? thanks.

    Zio,

That Icacls command resets explicit permissions back to inherited permissions. It does not restore 'correct' permissions unless the inheritance contains the permissions necessary for all component files.

Perhaps SFC-DISM and/or a Repair install [aka InPlace upgrade] will help you.

    sfc /scannow

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

I have only used the same as you now have - the SFC-DISM tutorial.
    - I assume you did as the tutorial suggested, if SFC was unable to fix all errors you ran that DISM command whilst connected to the internet [from where fresh copies of any necessary files would have been downloaded].

I also suggest a Repair install. So try that. I do not know that it will work - I have never seen your particular problem before.

If that does not fix things I do not think you will find a solution without reinstalling from scratch.
