    Lost Username

    Hello.
I have Windows 10 Pro laptop and for some reason, the login screen just shows Other User and asks for username and password. It used to show the username and I just had to enter the password. I never bothered to note it down.

I have the password and not the username. How can I find out? Panicking here as I can't work

It is not Admin or Administrator. I have tried it. The username is CompanyNameXXX. So something like Microsoft1944 or Microsoft2393. The thing is due to remote work the small company I work for is badly organized and I will have to ship, take time off, and then wait.

I know the password. Just need the username!

Do you have any USB/DVD that you can boot from so that you can look around the disk to find the folder Jacee referred to?

Is the user account a "local" account [one that was created on the computer itself and that exists nowhere else] or was it created by & controlled by the company centrally? This would affect whether or not that folder name was the entire username or not.

The computer has Bitlocker and no one knows where the key is! What are my options.
I am fine with loosing all the data, but want to keep the programs installed on the computer.

    The username problem -
1 Phone up your IT dept / whoever dreamed up that username and ask them what the username is.
2 If you know the username is CompanyNameXXX, why did you try Admin or Administrator?

Bitlocker - That stops all workarounds to the username problem.

I work for a very small disorganized company. The IT department is the owner who probably does not remember his name most of the days. Overworked. Definitely know the start of username, it is the company name.
Unfortunately, no one in the company knows I did try the Admin and Administrator and Guest.

Someone mentioned I could probably query the computer from another computer on the LAN and get list? Possible or I am out of luck.

Start the computer, as soon as the Windows logo or spinning icon appear [i.e. before Window loads properly], press the power button to force the computer off.
    Do this a second time.
[Some people used to say you needed to do this 3 times but the tutorial says it is only needed twice] Do this a third time.

Then restart it and let it proceed - which will be to a repair mode, the WRE

from where you can tell it to load Safe mode as illustrated in the tutorial.

Safe mode demands a login and it shows the usernames you can use to log in with. You don't actually need to do anything in Safe mode, as soon as you get there you can reboot and start logging in normally again.

It takes me to the recovery screen and the only 2 options are Please Enter to Try Again or Press F8 for Startup Setting. When are say Try Again, it loads the computer logon screen and when I press F8, it asks for Bitlocker key

Who are you in this "small disorganized company"? A worker, bookkeeper, etc?
