Failed PIN entry not being allowed--asks to reset PIN or use password

I'm on Windows 10 version 1903. I have PIN entry enabled. However, I've found that after a recent update (or might have been further back), if I initially make a mistake entering my PIN when coming out of Sleep mode, Windows does not prompt me to retry. Instead I get some kind of error and I'm prompted to either reset the PIN or use my password.

If I lock Windows (WIN+L) and then fail the PIN entry, I am given the chance to reenter my PIN. It's only when coming out of Sleep mode that I am not given the chance. Either I'll enter my full password or I'll put the laptop back to sleep then wake up again.

Is this a known issue and is there a correction for it? I searched the forum but couldn't find anything specific to this.

a Pin should be 4 numbers. Why not reset the pin.

Yes, mine is 4 numbers and I can log in with it. The issue I'm referring to is when I go to sign in and might make a mistake. Sometimes I type too fast. So then the PIN fails... but when this happens upon waking from Sleep I'm not given the chance to reenter it.

My pin is 6 numbers long & you can mix letters with the numerical code if you want on my o.s.

When I start my pc & it asks for pin on my wireless keyboard I always press "spacebar" to wake the keyboard to ensure I sign in correctly.

Also you can stop it from asking for a PIN once it has woken from sleep also !

I've no problem with being asked for a PIN. And most of the time, it's fine. It's just that once in a while issue when I fumble & type in a wrong digit. Trouble is, it's 4 digits and once you hit the 4th number it auto-submits... so if you hit the last number in error, you can't backspace & correct--it is already submitted. Granted, this is a minor problem. Going back to sleep & waking up again clears it. But, would be nice to get rid of this quirk. I've not yet seen a mention of it on-line... so it has me puzzled as to what is causing this behavior.

FWIW, this comes up only when waking from a long sleep (hours). If I put my laptop in sleep mode & immediately wake it, then try a bad pin, I'm given the chance to enter the pin again. Same as when unlocking from an active session.

OK, I think I've figured out why.

My laptop is a personal one, but I also use it for work. Microsoft recognizes a work account and a personal account. When I went through the settings screen to check on my PIN settings, it said it wasn't set up. So when I selected to do so, it gave me an option only for the work email address. When I declined, it gave an error... which looked similar to what I'd see with a bad PIN entry from Sleep mode. I think it might be related.

FWIW on 1903 with 2 accounts, I can confirm I'm re-prompted for a PIN if I make a mistake after resuming from sleep.
