you don't currently have permission to access this folder

The popup tells me this. Then it says click continue to get access to this folder. So I click continue.

Then it says you have been denied access to this folder.

    Seriously.

Then it takes me to this other screen and I don't know what to pick to get access to that folder.

There's nothing unique about this folder, it just happens sometimes.

Precisely what do I pick in the next display to gain access to that folder?

You won't have NTFS permission to access it so you need to take ownership but it may be a problem if it's owned by system as it may inherit from above and may stop something working if you change security

I have the folder in the OP's example too. It is C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\PackagedEventProviders

The owner is TrustedInstaller and only SYSTEM and TrustedInstaller have full control. Taking ownership and changing permissions may have unwanted consequences.

If you just want to look inside a protected folder such as this, then run TreeSize Free as an administrator. Turns out that my PackagedEventProviders folder is empty.
