Sign in with a Microsoft account instead

I have a Local Account and want to, "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead". I go through all of the required steps including entering my Username and Password. Microsoft accepts everything, then ask me to enter my password one final time. I very carefully enter it exactly as I did before and Microsoft says its not correct. Any help wold be appreciated.

When you first activated your PC, did you use an email account or a mobile phone number? With the email account, they may have given you a security code number.
That security code number would be your Microsoft account ....plus then enter your pass word.

I realise this may be too basic, but if it is please accept my apologies
Do you HAVE an existing Microsoft account

    When you select
Sign in with a Microsoft instead
You are presented with the window on my screenshot
Please confirm as asked if you DO already have a Microsoft account and if so are you sure you are entering the correct password for that and not the one for the Local User Account

Hello Wally, and welcome to Ten Forums.

It sounds like this is at step 7 in the tutorial below where it's asking you to enter your local account's password one last time.

I do in fact have an existing Microsoft account and if I go directly to Microsoft, everything works. The problem is clearly at Step 7 of the process of, "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead." I don't know why this is happening.

Have you checked post 4 from Brink - Admin of the site
    You said
Microsoft accepts everything, then ask me to enter my password one final time
and when it asks that - it refers to the Local Account password - when changing from Local to Microsoft.
In fact I think if you look closely at that Windows with that message - you will see that - on the link Brink provided you with on Post4

As you say - Step 7.
