    Cannot renew password expired

    Hello,

I meet a big issue concern about the renewal of passwords on several workstations in Windows 10 Pro (versions 1903 and 1909).

User passwords expire every 90 days. Several users have encountered the same problem when their password expires: when they enter their password on the Windows 10 prompt, they are told the following message:

"The user password must be changed before the first connection"

This message is normal and is displayed each time a password expires. However, when they click "OK" to enter their new password, usually a prompt with two fields to enter and confirm their new password is displayed. However, this is not the case, and only the target with the current password is displayed, without us being able to do anything else.

The screen after entering password :

Any idea about this bug ?

    Thanks for your help.

are you saying it won't give you the option to enter the new password?

Yes, exactly. I have no prompt to enter the new password. It's a loop.

In your screenshot, I see two fields? That does appear after you type the current password?

Maybe there is a problem with the gui translation and it asking you to enter the new password and confirme it in the box below?

This is not a local account, this machine is member of a Domain. Here's a translation of the screenshot.

    Cannot renew password expired-image.png

'Other user' is normally only displayed when the account name trying to sign in is not recognised as local account, which it wouldn't be if it is a Domain user account. Is the blanked-out Domain name the correct one? That's about as far as I can go with this, other's more familiar with Domain administration should be able to help.

    Hello all,

Thank you for your help, I found the origin of my issue and it was very....stupid.

It was only the sign-in option, it was by default configured (I don't know why for the moment) on my VPN and not on the domain :

So, i just clicked on the sign-in options and click on the key icon (the third on the picture above) and when now I enter the expired password, I can enter my new password.

    Thanks all :)

Well @GoodFeel, at least you can console yourself that you have helped others who may find themselves in the same situation.

Time to mark the thread as Solved so they can find it....
