    One more thing to check is to make sure the On resume, display logon screen box is unchecked in screen saver settings like in step 7 below.

    It is unchecked.
    Will see what happens tomorrow when I turn the system back on.

    Worked fine this morning at startup.
    I will keep a couple sacrificial chickens on hand just in case it comes back again
