I need to delete two older User Names / Desktops.

There are some items that we would like to keep / maintain.

Is it possible to retain these Windows 10 Desktop Items / Icons?

Not if you delete the user account from Settings, the only option offered is to delete the account and all its data.

But if you delete the account from User Accounts in the Control Panel then you can choose to keep their data. If you click the 'Keep Files' button a folder with the same name as your PC will be created on your desktop. Inside this folder will be the user's folder with their Desktop, Documents, Favourites, Music, Pictures and Videos folders. Their appdata folder will be deleted though.

Other options include deleting the account from the command prompt, in which case theire entire user profile folder will remain in the Users folder. For more, see this tutorial:

Before deleting the user profiles, just copy the stuff you want to save from various folders like Desktop in these user profiles to respective folders in Public user profile.
