Maybe User Account Control is OFF? For security it should be ON. See Disable User Account Control (UAC) the Easy Way on Win 7, 8, or 10

Check it in Settings > Accounts. Local Account doesn't necessarily mean its a standard account, it just means that user isn't using a Microsoft Account. It could still be a member of the administrator group.

I think minecraft is installed only for the current user. That might be why.

The OP's screenshot is from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts\Manage Accounts. This would definitely have shown if it was an administrator account, as mine does here for the account named Access:

That is almost certainly the correct answer.

Admin prompts appear if the task affects other users [I realise it seems to appear for all installations but that is not what actually causes it]. So if, as xaccell suggests, this minecraft installation is for the current user only, no admin prompt would appear.

    In addition,
    - Applications that are installed 'for the current user only' often have options during installation to ' install for all' or 'install for current user only'. So you might have made a different choice for that Win8 computer.
    - I agree with wiganken that you should check UAC.
-- It should either be at its second-highest setting [which is the default] or its highest setting [which should always be chosen if you routinely use an admin account for day-to-day computing]
-- You can use this procedure Change User Account Control level - TenForumsTutorials
    - I disagree with the suggestion to check if the current user has an admin account or not. Your screenshot proves that is a standard account [and I can see that Bree has just posted this as I've been typing].

Ok, fair enough. I wasn't sure where that clip and past came from.

I'm glad the mystery is resolved. By the way, while you were posting, I edited my reply to include a link to a better UAC-checking procedure [the relevant TenForumsTutorial].

For future reference, you might wish to save a link to the TenForumsTutorial Index
