    Windows 10 password recovery USB

    Hi
I am new to this site, This is my first post. My apologies if this is posted in the wrong place.
After the computer did the 1903 update for windows (actually I had no choice, I have updates set to auto) I started having trouble signing in.
I want to make a password recovery USB
I used Control Panel to bring up User Accounts
I click on User Accounts and click on User Account again in the next screen
I thought there was supposed to be a heading on the left side of the new screen that says " Make a password recovery disk"
    It's not there.
    Where else should I look?

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit 1903 version OS build 18362.592
Just in case it makes a difference Microsoft Office 365

    Hi Berton
I went to Sign-in Options, Security Key.
A box came up wanting be to plug in my USB with a security Key
BUT That's what I'm trying to make
I was able to make one before the 1903 update, but can't find it (Don't every get old, the memory is the second thing to go. I don't remember what the first thing is)

    Hi Oscer1,
Yes I had the blank USB plugged into the CPU.
I also made sure the CPU recognized it

    Mike,

It's a "reset" disk not a "recovery" disk.

Its link only appears for local user accounts not MSAccount-linked user accounts.

It is no more effective than writing passwords down on a piece of paper
    but costs a lot more
and is more difficult to keep securely.

I keep my passwords on a strip of paper inside one of those dog collar ID cylinders that lives on my keyring

    Hi Try3,
    thank you
I thought it was a way to start up when my password won't work. I never had to use it before.
After the 1903 update, I now have to enter a password at start up, but not every time
Yes I have the "use password to start" box Unchecked.
When I give up trying to fix it myself, I'll post a question here.

    Thanks again

The Password reset disk is used, just as a piece of paper with a password written down on it is used, when you forget your password.

Neither the Password reset disk nor the piece of paper with a password written down on it will work if the user account has been corrupted and refuses to accept the correct password.
    - That's why it is always worth creating a spare Admin account - a password-protected local Admin user account - so you can still get in to the computer despite such corruption.

Your 'not every time' comment is surprising.
    - It makes me wonder if there is a Windows fault given rise to intermittent symptoms.
    - There is a repair procedure that is normally not relevant to user account issues, a 'Repair install'.
    - Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - TenForumsTutorials
    - There is no need to be put off by the word 'install' it really is a repair procedure and will not affect your installed applications. It's only side-effect is that you will have to repeat the lest 'Cumulative' Windows update.
If checking everything using that Sign in User Account Automatically - TenForumsTutorials I linked to does not fix the intermittent behaviour then try a Repair install.

There is also a Microsoft Account Troubleshooter - direct download link but I have never used it in anger. I thought it had been incorporated within Settings, Updates, Troubleshoot but it is not there on my computer.

You can use this free program to create a bootable usb that will reset your unknown password to blank and let you create a new one that you can remember from now on, even if it's the same as the one you thought before -
