    C/Users/*name* change

I got this new W10 computer and the guy that set it up for me put in 'owner' as the default name, it's what shows up when booting. If I change the name to something that I would rather have, does it affect all the things under the /User/owner/.... folders, so that some programs that store things in the /Roaming/... folders, does that mess all those programs up so they can't then find what they need? Or is there some instructions on how to change this name and retain all the app settings? If you get my drift?

This thing has been a nightmare. If I'd known it was this much work, I'd have gone to Linux.

    build 1909.

It can all be done. See these TenForumsTutorials
How to Change the Name of a User Profile Folder in Windows 10
How to Change User Name of an Account

Personally, I think it can be better to create a new [admin-level] user account with the name you want and relegate the original one to being a standby for use if your normal account ever gets corrupted.
Add Local Account or Microsoft Account in Windows 10

You want to create a new user, because of hassle with "links" and software later.

You can change that name though, without having to do all that. Log out and Log in the inbuilt Administrator.
Hit the command "netplwiz", and change to your pleasure.

    REBOOT

Make your account into a Microsoft account from the local you just made. Log into Microsoft account.
Change your name there to the same as your user name. LOG OUT. (dont use edge)

Make a pin in win 10, the number does not matter.
Log back into Microsoft account, using the pin. You need to enter the security section for that.

    LOG OUT.

Run SFC /SCANNOW in Powershell, as admin.
REBOO....nah, its win 10. No reboot needed.

Log back into Microsoft account, remove your PC as unit, and add it again.
Check its status. Should be ok.

Go to Win update, click in all the Advanced options and update.

    Yer done.

This part isnt 100% needed, but I do it anyway when I change user name.

Powershell - Analyse Componentstore - Cleanup component store.

    REBOOT

CCleaner - If you are aware of what to remove and not with the registry cleaner in Win 10, go ahead.
If you dont know 100% what each registry do. Dont touch it.

Or, follow what mr 3 said up there. And your better off.

I just changed the name that shows up when I start up. It didn't change the name under c:/users. I'd like to do that but not sure it's worth the hassle. I'll see how it goes. Not really interested in making a MS account. They have enough of my money without making more on the side.

As a side issue, my wife wanted the old mahjong titans game back so I found the link to aero and it worked like a charm. Had do download a huge file just for that one program though.

The wifi router in the new w10 computer is not as sensitive as the old w7 laptop, so I got a cheap linksys $30 router and use it as a bridge in her room, since I've got a wire pulled up there anyhow. Now I've got good wifi throughout the house.

Things are gradually coming together, but it's been a month.
