    Struggling to recreate corrupted profile

Somehow i have done something horrible with my profile so wanted to create a new one. I tried a few system restores but they all have the same issue. My account is linked to microsoft account so trying to avoid just deleting the account and starting again. i have read some posts suggesting creating a test account, login under that then rename the current profile as .old. then restart and login should create anew profile. i can then copy across any bits of the old profile I'm confident haven't been corrupted.

However I cannot seem to rename my current profile as get the attached error message.

Any suggestions how i move forward would be appreciated

Have you got a spare hard drive?

I was thinking take your current hard drive out, replace with the other drive. Install Windows and create your usual Microsoft account.
Once all installed, then goto Control Panel and then System. Now Advanced, and 'User Profiles'. You should see the profile you created right here. If possible the 'Copy to' tab will accept a click and you can copy the whole profile contents to a USB. If you can perfect.

Now goto USB and see all the profile documents it has copied over. This will give you an idea of what to replace over to your old Hard drive. If you can copy the whole contents back into your old disk, brilliant.
This should work so give it a try

Wow no I don't have another hard drive. you wouldn't think this was so difficult

What i did was copied my profile to another internal drive. I create a new test administrators account logged in with that and deleted my old profile (which was harder than it should be). I then went to the registry and deleted the profile there. I also went to the Microsoft store and disconnected the machine. i restarted. I then tried to recreate my profile using my Microsoft email address, but it told me the email was already in use. I did a full update including getting the latest version of windows and rebooted. Same issue

At this point I gave up and just created an account with no connection to Microsoft. I have no idea what the advantage is of using a Microsoft account is, but I had to get on with my life.

If anyone knows how to completely detach a Microsoft account email from the computer so I can recreate the account please let me know!!!

There is this guide. I would do a backup of important files before doing anything advanced.
