    Admin password not recognized

Hi, there. I'm desperate. I just registered on this site to see if I can come up with a way to get into my laptop.

My HP Envy is running Windows 10, and there's not a whole lot more I know about it. Last year I set up my husband up with his own account on the HP, and we bought me a new laptop. Everything was working great. I was able to log into MY area of the laptop (with a decade of family photos and 40 GB of music) and he was able to keep his data separate. Whenever we needed new software or to update iTunes, we would just enter my password and it would install.

I tried to login last weekend for an update or something, and it says my password is wrong. My husband is able to sign in fine, but I can't. I haven't changed my Windows password at ALL. I don't know what to do!

The only thing I can think is that a month ago, my husband called me at work and said he was trying to access MY laptop (to scan something that he couldn't with the HP). He accidentally changed the PIN from four digits to six digits. I had to reset the main password on my Windows account, but I've tried the new password on the HP, and it says it's wrong. I've tried the old password, too. No dice. I've tried EVERYTHING.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Sorry but due to liability, there is no one that can help. Suggest you speak to the other party that locked you out.

My husband (who MIGHT have done some thing by accident, but I don’t know) is sitting here on the couch beside me. He’s a very, very computer illiterate senior citizen and has no idea what he may or may not have done. Neither of us does. Are you telling me I should just throw the laptop away?

Simple answer is to create a new user or if your husband can login he can chage the password if he is admin

Unfortunately, the system tells me that I am admin. But thank you for your suggestion!

A computer can have 2 or more Users with administrative rights. If he can access Settings, User accounts, see if his has the rights or is a standard user.

Really?!? Then why do we have a tutorial here on Tenforums that tells how to do it?

    Option 5:
Enable or Disable Elevated Administrator account in Windows 10
