    User Accounts - double entry

When I start up a user called "John" appears, signs in automatically then a second "user" appears called "Carrot Museum", that signs in automatically, and I can start to work.

Only one person uses this laptop. Screen shot of users screen attached shows (4th one down) John with the full name Carrot Museum. Second attached from netplwiz shows only one user (carrot museum).

I do not recall this double entry user, who is one and the same person.

How can I prevent this double log in always appearing?

What happens if I delete that user (john - carrot museum) and create a brand new user (me!) with full admin rights?

One would be a Local or Microsoft.com aka non-domain connected user. You can setup Windows 10 Pro/Education/Workstations/Enterprise to show a Local/Live user and Roaming Domain user. The Roaming user would have a User Directory, but is managed by the Domain Controller that is WDAGUtilityAccount.

If you delete John aka CarrotMusuem, you lose Local Non-Domain access of that Workstation.

It means what I stated. In other words, you delete Carrotmusuuem, you lose that local user on that workstation and all of their files stored in the user directory. If there is nothing wrong with that Local/Live account, leave it, since the Roaming user is not a static user and has a zero footprint on the machine.

"...you delete Carrot Museum, you lose that local user on that workstation and all of their files stored in the user directory..."
Absolutely correct; however, there is a work-around... One can set up a common data folder or set of folders within the data partition if such partition exists, or, on any partition that contains data. Then copy the data from the users My Documents or whatever directories are available into the commons pot. After confirming all the data successfully exists in the commons, then one can delete a un-needed user account.

Hi John, I believe what people are saying is that you can delete any user, however; you will lose all the files/pics/docs etc saved to that particular user's folders.

If you would like to clean up the users on your PC by deleting specific profiles you may want to copy the info saved within those profiles first as this will not be possible after deletion of the profile.

    1) Logon as an Administrator.

    2) Press Windows key + E to launch windows explorer.

    3) Navigate to C:Windows\Users\username. Username that you want to delete such as Carrot Museum.

    4) Navigate to C:Windows\Users\Carrot Museum and look for content you want to keep within C:Windows\Users\Carrot Museum\Desktop or \Downloads folders etc. You must copy anything you want to keep to another location such as your new profile users folders. C:Windows\Users\John\Downloads etc. If you have shortcuts on the desktop, you will require to redirect them to the new folder C:Windows\Users\John\Desktop.

    5) After copying all the data you want to keep, switch users to John and verify that your data move was successful and is now visible using the John profile.

    6) After confirming your files are visible while signed in as John, you are now safe to delete the Carrot Museum profile.

Delete User Profile in Windows 10

PS; if you require any clarification on any of these directions or have any further questions before you proceed, please feel free to post.

The problem is there are not two users anywhere in the listings. There is no John entity, but it does sign in first, followed by carrot museum. As shown in the screenshot. It's a puzzle, not affecting performance, just annoying. I am loathe to delete one and lose both.
Is it possible to create a brand new user, with all admin rights, and then delete access rights to the other users without deleting them. So then on start up only the new user appears and logs in.

What would happen if I totally re-installed Win 10 and started afresh?

You would create a new user profile on that workstation and would start over fresh with zero in the user directory folders. This is not rocket science for what you are asking or seeing.

A clean install almost always beats fixing a mess. I'm sorry I must have misunderstood, I thought you had concerns about losing existing data from users folders, my mistake.

Looking at your first post again it does appear that carrotmuseum@outlook.com is your Microsoft authentication identity. You have the ability to edit or change that user to another Microsoft account or break-free and not use a Microsoft account for authentication, that's your choice.

If you type 'manage your account' into the search window next to the start button, then click on Manage my Microsoft account, this will take you to a site where you can edit the username or change the account used for Authentication.

If you were to add a new account or name of your choosing, you could simply add that as a user, delete the old undesired user, and you're done. Nothing beats a clean install, however; only you can decide if that's a suitable action to remedy this issue.

There is only one user, but two automatic sign-ins. So fix the automatic sign-ins, as there's nothing to fix for the user.
