How to remove defunct Email Address from Account

Unsure where to post this so I have defaulted to here.

Up until 29th March this year I was with a different ISP to what I have now.
Associated with my Windows 10 Account I have a defunct Email Address.
I have added the Email Address from my new ISP but cannot remove the old defunct address.

    Help would be appreciated.

    Hello Norman,

You can add the email address as a new alias for your Microsoft account.

Add or Remove Microsoft Account Aliases

You can make this new email address your primary alias if wanted.

Change Primary Alias for Microsoft Account

Next, you can remove the old email address as an alias.

If you were just wanting to change what was showing in About Windows (winver), then you can use the tutorial below to change the registered owner of the PC to do so.

Hello Shawn, I have tried before but stumbled. I will look at the links you have supplied and let you know how I get on. Thank you.

How can I tell that the Email Address I added is an Alias? Is it an Alias simply because I have added it?

Logged into Microsoft Account associated with the added Email Address. Cannot see anything to do with an Alias.

If the email address is listed under "Account aliases" on the Manage how you sign in to Microsoft page for your Microsoft account online, then it would be an added alias.

I am logged in to my Microsoft Account and on my profile page I can see, 'Manage how you sign in to Microsoft'. When I click on that I am being directed to receiving a code via a text message to my mobile. Is this normal?

See the image for my email & accounts. Emails have been partially blanked out. The first Email Address was the only one before I changed my ISP. As it was tied to my ISP it is no longer available. I can only 'Manage' this address not 'Remove'. The second Email Address was created by me (believe I used add family member) and is directly associated with my current ISP. For this Email Address I have the option to both 'Manage' and 'Remove'.

Now for something else that I have not mentioned before. I have been plagued this year with Microsoft messages bout a problem which requires me to obtain a code and which will then enable me to change my password. Because of this I save all of my files from OneDrive and when through the process of deleting the Microsoft Account. I do not use Windows Mail, XBox and other services afforded by having an account. You are given 60 days to logged back in to that account and reverse your decision. I have about 28 days left. My hope was that when the account gets closed, my other Email Address will the primary one (the only one). I hope I am not missing a trick or two.

It is normal to get a code like that for two-step verification.

You should be seeing this below from the link I posted above after signing in with your Microsoft account.

This is where you can manage your aliases for your Microsoft account.

Not sure that I have ever seen 'Make primary'. I have been logging in to the Microsoft account associated with the second (lower) Email Address. Will attempt to get into the account associated first (upper) Email Address.

It won't be available from Settings in your screenshot.

You will only see it at the link I posted below from the Microsoft account webpage.

I have managed to re-open the Microsoft account that was in the process of being closed down. Cannot remember how many times I had to supply a code. Like getting into Fort Knox. Received numerous Emails from Microsoft but this one is relevant.

Your account xxxxx@yyyyy.free-online.co.uk, which was set to close on 23/10/2019, has been reopened.
Everything you had in your account should be just as you left it. We're glad to have you back!

Logged into my online account and could see the Email Address above (the real one). Could not see any other Email Addresses. When I attempted to log in again a bit later I get the following message.

    xxxxx@yyyyy.free-online.co.uk
You can't access this site at the moment
This site requires a security code to sign in. When your security info is updated on 22/11/2019, you will be able to access this site. You can still access sites such as Outlook and Skype that don't require a security code.
If you didn't request this, let us know.
If you'd like to keep your current security info, you can cancel this request.

OK, I will attempt to get a security code and log in again. I am mentally exhausted.

Managed to log in without the need to acquire yet another code. See image. Now, when I click on 'Manage how you sign in to Microsoft', security prevents me from proceeding. Think I am up the creek without a paddle

Are you able to access the "Security settings" for your Microsoft account at the link below for how you will get security codes.
