As a user who's part of a domain, my user folder under C:\Users is very long and this is disturbing when I use Bash (WSL).
the folder is first.last.domainName and that's too long.
Ideally, I just want my user folder to be my first.last name without the domain name at the end of my username.
Is it possible? and if yes, what is the safest way to rename it?

I enabled the Administrator account and issued the command:
wmic useraccount get name,SID
The results are:
Administrator
DefaultAccount
Guest
WDAGUtilityAccount
It seems that it only list local accounts and not accounts that are part of a different domain.
Update: I used my domain account login to figure out the SID via RegEdit.
I then logged out and logged in as the administrator account.
I renamed the value in the registery.
I now try to rename the user folder, but I get this message:
"The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program".
So now what? :)
p.s. - Task manager doesn't show my domain account as being used/logged in so there is no process I can find under that user.
Update 2: Logged in as Administrator account in SafeMode and I was able to rename the folder.
