Sorry to have left this hanging. Bit Defender asked for BDSys log which took time to download and send. Awaiting their analysis. For anyone else viewing this thread I found on trawling for more info that the OLD LAPTOP FILES downloaded from my husbands old laptop apparently contains emails and attachments that are causing the trouble. An attempt I made earlier in August to get rid of the Marie Admin Account tho unsuccessful had left behind references to the username I put in and I succeeded in opening this . Microsoft obligingly changed the password and I have a new account . This I was able to change to admin account. Marie has been demoted to a Standard. I can now use Word again and have my desktop icons back (both had become unusable which was one of the reasons I panicked about not being to get in touch with Windows 10 Forums or BitDefender.) I am hoping BitDefender will advise how to get rid of Trojan and I may not have to reinstall. If not I will follow your tutorial and probably re-install.

    Very grateful puzzled postman.

    Good luck.

Myself I would re-install. Clean slate, no viruses, no deleted accounts, much better foundation to move forward on. Nasty viruses can be removed but can leave damage to an OS that will catch you later.

Let us know what BD says.
