Getting a second laptop.Question about Microsoft account.

I am getting a new laptop. I am keeping my other one and have a microsoft account set up on it. My question is, on my new laptop can I use the same email for my Microsoft account (setup admin microsoft login) and use a different password and pin or will that give me troubles? The new laptop will have windows 10S but I may change it . I do not want the two laptops to sync so can I turn off sync in Windows 10S ? It is already turned off in my other laptop. I searched for an answer to this but was not able to find one with my scenario. Thanks

No restriction on using your Live account on as many devices as you wish.

I just finished a clean install of Windows 10 1809 on an old laptop and used the same microsoft account for ms authentication. I also have sync disabled and use a different PIN code for each Windows 10 computer, no problems so far. Was that the information you were looking for?

Different password also when I first set it up?

Yes that part I am not foggy on. It is the part where I can use a different password and pin on the second machine with the same user name. Thanks

No you can not use different passwords and/or pins on different machines with a live account. A live account is a Roaming Profile account.

Ahh. Ok . I really was confused on that point. Thanks so much. I did not want to lock myself out of my new laptop first thing .

Let me try to be more clear. I have 2 Windows 10 computers that use a different lockscreen PIN code. The first pc was configured last Fall using a hotmail account for authentication.

The second pc had a clean install a couple of days ago. It has a different lockscreen code from the first and uses the same hotmail account for authentication.

Yes, the hotmail account has the same username and password but each pc has a different lockscreen PIN #. Perhaps the important detail is to have the sync control off.

Both machines have Windows 10 Home 1809.

    Any further questions?

Yes I see. Thanks for the clarification. I do believe I have a handle on this now.

Excellent! Sometimes these topics can be very challenging to discuss online. Too many passwords in too many spots. Cheers,
