What type of account should be used on a rebuild?

    Hi Guys,
I'm old school, so I always create local accounts, I do have a Microsoft account and use it for OneDrive storage,
I've just done a complete re-install on a Windows 10 laptop and ofcourse it asked me about accounts, as I'm used to doing local and I might sell the laptop I thought I'd go for that.
I've just seen how to convert Local to Microsoft account, so thanks for that:-

I was just wondering the advantages and disadvantages of both, for example go for a Microsoft account and your network goes down, can you still log onto your laptop /pc? I guess you could create 1 account of each type.

    Many Thanks

If you also set up a PIN using your MS account, you can always log on, regardless of Net availability. The PIN is stored encrypted locally, and does not require a net connection. To change the PIN, you would need to sign on to the MS account to verify yourself and make the change. But, from that point on, no Net required using a PIN.

No cut and dried, black and white answer to that. There are objective and subjective reasons to use either. Local account cuts down considerably the ties to MS and it's services, such as you would need to sign in to any Store App each time to use it. Also would reduce any feedback (telemetry) sent to MS. This is a big point to those who claim MS is snooping on them. MS account gives easier access to those services without your intervention. Have to stress here, this is a personal option and decision. What's right or preferred for one user may be totally opposite for another.

There are many, many threads here on the subject. Just search for local account or MS account. Opinions and choices are many on both sides of the question. This is why MS gives the option of Local vs MS account. It really is your choice. There is no right answer, just choice.
