I was setting up a computer for my grandson and lost internet connection just as I was setting up his MS account. The name is in the system but no password and I cannot access it to set the pw.
Do you mean that
1 you were creating the MSAccount itself online
or
2 you were adding an existing MSAccount to the computer as an MSAccount-linked user account
or
3 you were creating a new MSAccount as part of the process of adding a user account to the computer?

Recover your account
If 2 or 3 - Log in using another Admin user account, delete the one you were trying to create then start again.
