Microsoft Account On or Off? Solved

    Microsoft Account On or Off?

Recently Microsoft sent me an email saying that users need to log in to Microsoft Account once every two years or some services may be ended. I had closed Microsoft Account previously because I did not want it to possibly control or change anything on my computer. I logged into Microsoft Account and had to set up a new password so it may be a new account. My question is how do I know if I have Microsoft Account? It is not shown in Settings, Accounts. It just shows my computer and my name. In any case I wist to close my Microsoft Account if I have one. How do I do that? FWIW my negative experience in the past was that the desktop wallpaper of one laptop was transferred to my second laptop. Then the password of the second laptop was changed to be the same as the other laptop. I guessed right and was able to rescue the the laptop. I closed Microsoft Account after that. Thanks.

Assuming you know your Microsoft Account name you can go to

    accounts.microsoft.com

    and sign in.

You could also try typing in your id and then you can go through the I forgot password.

    To close an account

When you used MS account you likely had Sync Settings enabled, left hand column in "Accounts"

Thanks Caledon Ken. I see Sync on the left of Accounts and I don't recall clicking on it but that does not guarantee I did not do so. It is very unlikely that I did click on it. I see that I use none of the services controlled by Microsoft Account so I will close it and be rid of the possibility of more "help". It seems that Microsoft Account is more of an environment that an account. It is relatively easy to create but there are very few things to click on to close it. If this is progress then I am resisting progress.

    Hi,
Closing a ms account is actually pretty silly process
It takes 45 days to even maybe be closed

The MS account follows in line with an Apple or Google account.

One account for all their properties. The one benefit of an MS account is you can reset password online for your device. Small step forward from making password recovery disks.

An MS account can their email account if you have one. (outlook.com, hotmail.com, live or msn). I use mine as an email account, a login account and it holds my Office 365 subscription.
