Windows says "no permissions" even though I have full permissions

    Hi guys!

I have an external drive with a lot of files (about 2,000,000 files). For about 500 of them (which are all located in sub-folders of the same folder), Windows 10 says I don't have the permissions to access the files no matter which application I use to try to open them.

    For example:
Windows says "no permissions" even though I have full permissions-s4_screenshot.png

I checked that I'm the owner of the files and that I have full read/write permissions.

Windows says "no permissions" even though I have full permissions-permissions_screenshot.png

Not sure how to fix this?

Welcome to the forum. Can you show permission for the file in the security tab. Run a disk check in case its corrupt

    Cheers!

What I provided above is the "advanced" security tab.

Here is the regular security tab:

Windows says "no permissions" even though I have full permissions-permissions_screenshot.png

Disk check has completed with no errors. :)

    Any ideas?

I also checked with Process Explorer (How do you find what process is holding a file open in Windows? - Server Fault) and no processes are holding these files open.

Found the solution. Files were encrypted for some reason by the computer that created these files. (Filenames were in green on that computer.) Had to go back to that computer and uncheck "Encryption" for these files in their "File Properties".
