Microsoft PIN cannot be added to sign in

Hello,
When I set up my new ASUS laptop, Windows 10, it automatically used an Outlook email account for my sign in. I never did use a PIN for sign in. I also opted for the Local account sign in, as an alternative. Since then I had trouble with Internet Explorer which froze all the time and caused something to change so now I do not have the Microsoft account option to sign in, instead of using the Local account.
I am not sure I get Windows updates now. And would like to get my Microsoft account back again.
THIS is the problem, I click on FORGOT account password, go through all the actions to do that, and the last question is, what is your PASSWORD! lol. and then I was finally able to CHANGE my password again, and now it asks for my PIN to sign in! I NEVER HAD A PIN.
And I go through the exact same thing and the last question after telling them I forgot my PIN, is to put in my current PIN?
You can see this is ridiculous. And frustrating.
Do I abandon the idea of using a Microsoft account for my puter?

None of the procedures have worked to get my Microsoft account back to enable it as the sign-in for my puter. I have made several Microsoft accounts, and each time I try to access one, Microsoft says 'that account does not exist'! lol
To get to your reply, I cannot use a PIN because I never had one. On the day to start one I opted out because I had the required Outlook mail to sign in. And Microsoft says you need your PIN to get a new PIN that you forgot. LOL
Hello doesn't work because it says I need a PIN. And I think it requires Cortana. I have no interest in Cortana because it records and digitizes everything you say and stores it. Even if you UNinstall I.E. it still works in the BG unbeknownst to you. lol
Passwordless sign in? Facial recognition? OMG isn't anyone afraid of those?
All you get from Microsoft's help is where a robot asks you if your computer is plugged in!
So I will abandon my efforts to have a Microsoft account for signing in, and physically update my system when I think of it. I believe all this is sending me over to a dreaded Apple computer! And I will say I am sorry for accusing Bill Gates of working with the US NSA after they threatened to split Microsoft into 3 and he aquiesced to 'save his baby'. lol
