Stuck at safe mode login due to forgotten local password

I am hoping someone can help me so I don't have to do a fresh install.

I upgraded my 64 bit Windows 10 Pro to 1903 and my AMD driver started causing reboots reporting issues with Wattman. Solutions online pointed to clearing the driver using AMD's driver tool. Well it booted me into safemode without networking and is now asking for my local login information. Apparently I can't remember the password since I have used the pin to login forever.

This wouldn't be a big deal, but I can't get it just to boot normally. I even tried rolling back to the latest snapshot, but immediately after it still boots to safe mode. There is no reset password option either. I don't know if I didn't setup the 3 questions, but checking my other PC it doesn't even give me the options to set or change the answers. I am the admin and they are both home PCs. It is using my real name rather than a username so it is almost like an offline Microsoft Account, but it didn't accept my MS password which I verified on my other PC.

Does anyone have any suggestions on either how to force it to boot into normal Windows? I can then hopefully reset my local password.

If not any suggestion on removing or resetting the password another way?

My last resort will be just to buy a new SSD and do a fresh install, but I obviously don't want to do that if I can avoid it.

Try booting your machine with Windows 10 installation mediaAt the Install screen, click on "Repair" on the lower left. Then Troubleshoot.Advanced.Select Command Prompt and type in the following:bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safebootIf that gives an error, use:bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot

Thank you so much. The first one worked. I couldn't get in the command prompt at first because it was asking for my old MS password apparently, but once I tried an earlier one it worked. No idea if this would have worked on the default login.

No I just need to figure out a way to reset my local password and also to add the security questions to both PCs.

Thanks I will give that a look later. For fun I booted into safe mode and tried the same password, but didn't work so it is definitely something I have just long forgotten

Hopefully you can change it without knowing the current password.
    Good luck. :)
