updated to 1903 and my correct password was not accepted

I have a password manager which I checked (on my phone) also checked my password book. I had enetered the correct password! Had to go through an unbelieveable password reset and finally got it accepted. When the screen opened, my wallpaper was gone and most of my programs like Thunderbird ,etc were gone. A few programs were there, but they did not recognize me and asked me register! It was almost like it was not my user account. I rebooted and chose Macrium recovery and restored from the image I had made yesterday before the update. I then turned off updates for a month ( I have winpro). I got the notification right away that there was a user account problem. I had to sign in to windows using the new password and it was fine.
I would like to know what went wrong when I updated and if it will happen again when I finally do have to update to 1903. I can't find anything about it online.
    Thanks,
    Joyce

I wonder if somehow you were logged in to a temporary user profile?
Fix You've been signed in with a temporary profile in Windows 10

    thanks for the help but...

It definitely was not my profile. However, I did not get the warning that was described in the link you sent me, and I only have one profile with me as admin on my machine. I also have my computer set to not even ask for a password when booting. So I am still confused by the whole thing and I am afraind to try the update again.

I'm not sure how you know the temporary profile problem didn't apply.

Sorry, I can't help you further as anything else would be guessing games as you are back with 1809 now. Great you use Macrium R.

If you tried updating manually last time, I suggest you wait until 1903 is offered via Windows Update.

Meanwhile, do some routine checks on your system:

HD Tune, Health and Error Scan tabs - to check your disk.

    If ok run
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt (this tests only- doesn't fix).

    If ok run
    SFC /SCANNOW
from an admin command or Powershell prompt
