How do I change my Users name in Windows 10, v 1903?

    Hello:

I have images that I need to access, but cannot, because the name of my Users file in the images is different that the one Win decided I should have after a clean install of 1903.

Any which way that would actually work would be greatly appreciated, as I am reinstalling tons of apps.

    Thank you!!!

    Hi Hans

This is likely what you need.

Add Take Ownership to Context Menu in Windows 10

Works for English Windows. Brink says in tutorial he will create for different languages.

Not sure it is, Ken. What I need is to change, for instance, C:\Users\softc to C:\Users\hardc (name change; not very easy as far as I understand).

From this list (which you're free to search):
    Windows 10 Tutorial Index

    perhaps you're thinking of this:
Change Name of User Profile Folder in Windows 10

-but I can't be certain what your problem is from what you say.

Are you trying to access old folders from a previous installation and copy that data into your clean install, and experiencing a permissions problem in doing so? If the issue relates to the folders, and not the files as you seem to suggest, you could copy the data completely ignoring permissions in the folder structure by booting your PC from a live boot disk.

Here I'm guessing, as I can't be clear about your problem from your description.

If, however, you're talking about disk images, then you should be able to mount those and explore them.

Sorry, Ken, for not being clear. Macrium Reflect (backup) images of my drives. I need to open then to pull data from them, but cannot, because my current Users name is different from the Users name that swas used in my previous Windows setup.

Thank you, Dalchina. I could not find anything in the tutorial index, but the second link looks promising, and I will try it later tonight.

I just trying something and will report back. Basically I took a MR image from another user and browsed it. While I can't take ownership it seems quite happy to allow me to copy it from the MR image to an empty partition. There I will attempt to take ownership.

So I copied the whole User directory for a particular user from an MR image into a partition and then tried opening files and it worked. I did not run take ownership.

I tried Change Name of User Profile Folder in Windows 10, and run into two problems:

    - Step 4: This sentence is incorrect: " Make note of the SID (ex: "S-1-5-21-237214570-1361766723-3061440971-1015") for the account (ex: "Brink2") you want to change the name of its user profile folder. "

Easier to see without the parenthesis: "Make note of the SID you want to change the name of its user profile folder." (problem is "... of its ..."). Does anyone know what it should be?- Step 6: "Substitute SID in the registry key path above with the actual SID (ex: "S-1-5-21-237214570-1361766723-3061440971-1015") from step 4 above for the account (ex: "Brink2") you want to change the name of its user profile folder."

The problem is that the SID in step 4 is the same as is mentioned here. So, substitue # with #. (In addition, this sentence also have the "...of its ..." error.)

Would anyone be able to straighten this out?

    Thank you!
