    What is my Microsoft account?

I just went through one of those deals where Microsoft thought I forgot my password and made me reset it. Luckily I have 2 computers so all that was not a problem. However, now I have to make corrections in my LastPass password keeper and I'm confused.

Is the Outlook email account (which I haven't used for ages) separate from the Microsoft account where you access OneDrive, etc.?

Outlook is an email client which can connect to any type of account if it's picking up Hotmail and that's what you sign into windows you need to change it if it's another account you don't need change

You write this as though it was commonplace. If you understand how MS came to think you had forgotten your password then fine but otherwise it would be worth explaining what happened.

    No.

The email aspect of it is merely one part of the MSAccount.

I think I've got things figured out now, however, as to this password situation, I've gone through this a number of times on my laptop. It hasn't happened for quite awhile on that machine. It just happened on this desktop (which is pretty new) for the first time.

I assume this is some kind of glitch that happens now and then with Microsoft. Is this something that is highly unusual?

Outlook Email Account is just one part of the same thing, an MS Account.

They may say you have signed in with a new Device sometimes and ask you to confirm this.

Even get that using one Laptop, presumably because I sometimes use an Email Client, and sometimes the Webmail way.

Increased security is what it is about.
