Thanks to both. For first response, I am always hesitant on win10 about messing with accounts. I don't recall local terminology for accounts on win7. I just got an email address and started using pc. l may be wrong about that but don't recall - just standard and admin.

Second response - what you state about replacing keyboard sounds a bit over our skill level so probably won't go that route. I would just have to purchase an external - again very annoying for such a young, unabused pc.

Will check out the account biz at some point. Again, I logged on to admin account this am and had no problem.

I am already almost convinced that the problem will turn out to be confined to the existing problem account and not to your hardware. The test I suggested was just intended to provide confirmation.

You are correct about Windows 7 normally only using local accounts. [I think somebody explained that it was possible to use MSAccounts with it but I was certainly not aware of that at the time]

I too think it is a windows problem and not a hardware problem. It has been fine for the last 3 or so admin log ins so think I'll just settle with that. One this morning for Macrium update. Thanks again. Also for confirming that win7 was as I described.
