    Password incorrect

I am having a issue with signing into my laptop. Everytime I enter my password and hit enter. I get a message that the password I entered was incorrect?

What is the work around for this?

Hi and welcome to the forums.

What type of account are you trying to login into; admin, local, or Microsoft?

When did this problem start, after an update for example?

The more information you can provide, the better we can help.

    Thanks.

Just to clarify things, the account information that can help others to help you is to state
    - is the user account an MSAccount [one that you can also sign into online] or a local account [one that only exists on the computer itself]
    - is the user account a "Standard" user account [so you get forced to put in another account's password when you get an admin challenge during, for example, program installations] or an Admin account [so, you only get an Admin challenge that asks you to click on Yes/No].

Your answer could therefore be one of the following
    local, Admin
    local, standard
    MSAccount, Admin
    MSAccount, standard

Each of these 4 possible results requires a different approach to solving your problem.

You should also post information about what preceded the onset of the problem [update, repeated freezes/crashes, forcing the computer off by holding down the power button for several seconds, …].

    R. Thanks

    R. IDK? All I know is I bought the computer a few months ago and just followed the setup prompts.

When did this problem start, after an update for example?

    R. I was following a fix for my Skype program and I did a restart. The restart caused the problem I now have?

The more information you can provide, the better we can help.

    R. That's all I know that caused the problem. I tried entering the password on my screens viritual keyboard. But got the same incorrect password messages?

    Thanks.

    R. If I have a MS account I don't remember if I do or not? I believe I have a local account one that exists on the computer itself. Because when I set up the laptop it asked me to enter a 4 digit PIN number.

    - is the user account a "Standard" user account [so you get forced to put in another account's password when you get an admin challenge during, for example, program installations] or an Admin account [so, you only get an Admin challenge that asks you to click on Yes/No].

    R. Not this no.

Your answer could therefore be one of the following
    local, Admin
    local, standard
    MSAccount, Admin
    MSAccount, standard

    R. I believe it is local or just the computer.

    R. Yes did this in the other guys post reply.

Please don't insert your answers within the text you have quoted, it makes it very difficult to read.

Rather, you can break the quotes text up by adding the tag [/QUOTE] after the bit you are replying to, insert your answer, then resume the quoting with a [QUOTE] tag as I have done here.

Okay I thought replying right after the question asked would make it easier to comprehend the question and reply.

It does, but your replies looked like part of the quote, not a separate reply. Breaking the quote into sections, each followed by your reply helps make it clear which part is your reply.

When you set up the computer, did you give it your email address to sign in and set up the first account? If so, then you are using an MS account.

Skype requires a Microsoft accountso you must have one. If you know the email address, you can log into it online and reset it here - https://account.live.com/password/reset . Follow the directions carefully, don't screw it up or you'll get locked out for 30 days. Write down email & pass, so you don't forget.

Can you change to log in with PIN vs password (click the number pad icon under sign-in space)? I don't think you can set up a PIN w/o a password first. After all this, I think you have a MS acct but forgot the password because you use the PIN all the time. But you WILL need it to log-in as password or to Skype. good Luck
