Changed Hotmail password on smartphone - will it affect Win10 login?

I have a PC and two Laptops. On all three I have disabled the Win10 login screen so that they start without having to enter a password. I do have a Microsoft Hotmail email account the emails of which I access on my android tablet and smartphone email app. I have just changed my Hotmail password.

Unfortunately I forgot that my PC and Laptops still have my old password. All three have sync turned on. They are all starting up okay without having to put a password in. I never use the PC and Laptops Win10 for accessing emails or Microsoft Store.

I would be grateful for advice as to a plan of action that I should adopt to avoid signing in problems especially with sync turned on.

I would turn off the auto sign-in and test that the new password is what is required now. Why ? If you ever have to use safe mode which requires a sign-in with password, not PIN, you do NOT want to find out, at that point, what the correct password is and risk being locked out. Once you've confirmed what the password is on each device or set it to the same on all, you can turn the auto sign-in back on again, to bypass the logon screen.

When you first enable auto-login, you have to enter the password for the account that you are logging into. All that auto-login does is supply the password for your account at login time. If that password changed, then auto-login will fail and revert back to the normal manual login screen.

Auto login doesn't really change the login process. It just automatically supplies the username and password to the same login process.

So I guess that means I have a Microsoft Account to sign in.

Just a thought. What if I just turned sync off? As I said I don't access my Hotmail or Microsoft Store.

Following all the advice I thought I would have a go.

I commenced with the spare laptop. I switched off sync and turned it on. It wouldn't allow sync on passwords until I had verified. I did this and a code was sent by text to my phone. I fed this in which switched on all the sync buttons. I tried Outlook and Microsoft Store and I was able to access them both. I took MrGeek's advice and turned off auto sign-in. Upon restart I was able to use my original password which opened up windows. All fine. I think I will keep no auto log-in.

I tried my other laptop and found that sync was on but I couldn't access Outlook until I had verified. I did this and a code was sent by text to my phone. I can now access Outlook and Microsoft Store. Again I took MrGeek's advice and turned off auto sign-in. Upon restart I was able to use my original password which opened up windows. All fine. I think I will keep no auto log-in.

My PC is next and if I have problems I'll let you know.

I don't think I will be using Outlook and Microsoft Store but I think it is good to know that I can.
