Please let me know if you have any questions.

    You could:

    1) Add a new account on the PC as a Microsoft account using your current Microsoft account email address.

    2) Make this Microsoft account to be an administrator on your computer.

    3) Sign in to Windows 10 with your Microsoft account.

I could not begin to relate how I tried to get back to using my MS account and password to login - too many steps. I did try as you said but I booted up to an odd screen as though I was signing in for the first time. It kept asking me for pins etc. and got very confusing. I used a recent Macrium recovery to get up and running.
I am sorry Brink as I know how hard you tried to help. maybe I have to live with this until I reinstall and insert the MS account when asked during the process..

    That's ok.

If you don't mind keeping the "User" name for the profile folder, you could:

    1) Sign in to the original "User" account.

    2) Delete the new account you just added.

    3) Switch the "User" account to be a Microsoft account with your email address.

I am afraid to do this but what would happen if I went to sign in options and followed the prompts to add a password?

If you only added a password for the local account "User", then you would still be using it to sign in to Windows 10 as you are now but with it requiring a password now.

I did create a password for the local account. That password is the same as the MS account password. Are they tied in so if I change MS it changes this one or do I change them separately. Lastly how do I get rid of this password if I wish to?
