Folder Access Denied

I recently tried to change my Username from the default first five letters of my email address by following one of Shawn Brinks tutorials. After three or four failed attempts I gave up and am stuck with the default which is C:\ User\grtat. I will probably return to that in the near future.

Before making these attempts however, I copied some personal files and folders to an external hard drive as a precaution. I have now put these files back onto my PC, mainly into Dropbox but then found I was unable to delete one particular folder or its files. I transferred the folder to OneDrive where I managed to delete the files but not the now empty folder. Each time I try to delete a message says "Folder Access Denied. You need permission from Desktop-H50PYDC\grtat to make changes to this folder" Now, as my PC has the name shown and my Username is correct, I cannot, for the life of me, see why I need permission from my own PC and myself.

I have tried following other tutorials showing how to deal with such situations and get the necessary permissions but I always end up not being sure who the Principle etc should be and whatever I try I end up failing.

I would be grateful if someone could give me an idiots guide to securing the necessary permissions to delete this empty folder. I know it is little importance in the scheme of things if an empty folder is left on the PC but I am just irritated that I cannot succeed in what should be a straightforward procedure.

If you make any chamges to your name the SID gets changed even if the name is the same hence the problem you need to take ownership of the folder and files with our app Add Take Ownership to Context Menu in Windows 10 | Tutorials

This does not seem to be working for me. After proceeding to Take Ownership of the folder and getting the command screen what should happen after I press any key? For me the screen disappears and I am back on the list of files/folders one of which I am trying to delete. I still get the Folder Access Denied message.

What is the folder and what are the permission on it?

The folder is referred to as a File folder in Properties It is shown as having a size of 318 bytes and size on disk as 0 bytes. It is in OneDrive i.e C:\Users\grtat\OneDrive\folder name. Properties list the Group or User Names as:- "Everyone" and "my name (email address)" this being as shown in my PC account name. My account name is shown as having full permissions in Properties>Security. If I edit Security to give "Everyone" full permissions it appears to grant this. However, if I leave Properties and then go back I find that the full permissions granted to "Everyone" have disappeared. Very frustrating.

It may get permissions from the folder above you need to check that as it may inherit from above

Sorry Samuria, I do not have a clue how to do what you advise. As I said earlier, it is telling me I need permissions from Desktop-H50PYDC\grtat which is the PC name followed by my Username. Your time and patience are limited as with most of us, I am sure, so if you are unable to reply I will completely understand.

Hello Samuria, Yesterday my laptop started to play up and was showing System Interrupts 100% in Task Manager. I won't bore you with all the details but I ended up doing a Windows Reset. When this had finished one of the first things I did was to try and delete the folder which previously would not delete. This time the deletion worked straight away. Thanks for your interest and suggestions.
