Why am I not being asked for a password?

    uSW10Pro V1803

In the dialog "User Accounts" (via netplwiz.exe), the cbox "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." is checked. The box has a single admin user, me.

If I logout (even shutdown) and later attempt access, I am not required to use a password to login. All I have to do is click my login button beneath my user icon.

My understanding is the selected checkbox should require it. Why can I login without a password?

    Thank you. (Low hours pilot)

    Hello Katie,

Checking that box would require you to have to sign on startup.

You might double check using the tutorial below to make sure you have turned on to require sign-in on wakeup to see if that may the cause.

If using a local account instead of Microsoft account, when the login screen only shows your avatar, name and button labelled Sign in as shown in screenshot, it means that the account in question does not have a password.

In that case you must first create a password for said local account: Add Password to Local Account in Windows 10 | Tutorials
