    Win 10 - can't remove login password

I recently had an OS meltdown and had to reinstall Windows 10 . The image I downloaded from Dell is apparently newer than the install I replaced: I tried to get rid of my login password using netplwiz, which I had done successfully in my previous installation. However, in the new OS netplwiz displays the same options as the previous version, but unchecking "Users must enter a uername..." has no effect. I still get prompted for a password when I boot or wake up the computer.

Does anybody know how to get rid of the login password?

    Thanks

It might be difficult if installing with a Microsoft Account rather than a Local Account. Either type account can be set as having Administrative Rights, actually need at least one set that way, lets one manage other things such as additional users.

Hello dgmoore, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Unchecking Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer in netplwiz should allow you to automatically sign in to the account at startup. You might try again using step 5 in Option One of the tutorial below in case you may have entered your password incorrectly in netplwiz.

For wakeup, you can set Require Sign-in on Wakeup to never to stop that.

I switched from Microsoft account to local and set up the local account without a password. Problem solved.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.
