If you know anyone with a windows 7 pc you can make a repair cd that will allow you access to the command prompt.
Hmmm, thanks Bazz. That may be an option.

Also I have just tested this, if you hold down the power button on your pc when windows starts to boot until it shuts off 3 times you will get into the recovery menu and can get a option for boot safe mode with command prompt. when the cmd opens type in regedit and follow my guide.

Hi, I recently upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. I didn't realize it was going to mess with my log in credentials just to get into my PC. Well, I'm locked out of my PC. I can't log on, it just tells me when I enter in the PIN and the Password that "Your device is offline, please enter old password." I do that and it rejects it.

I can't get internet access because I live on a college campus and the way they have it set up is you have to be logged into your computer before you can access the network.

I tried "resetting my PC" and chose the option to delete all the data but no idea if that will work yet.

I also tried reinstalling windows 7 from the CD, but I can't seem to get it to do that since I can't log in and get any kind of interface. I tried using the boot menu to boot from the CD (it's a retail version of windows 7.) but that doesn't work.

What do I do here? Is my computer bricked? This is ridiculous.
Probably not bricked, but your account may be locked out pending a forced password reset. They did that to be about 2 months back, I had been using a 7-digit only password, and they wanted 8. If you can log in to Windows Live or Outlook.com (from anywhere, coffee shop, internet kiosk, etc), they should prompt you to reset your password as you log in.

I've been thinking the same. I can log in from my iPad at home?

Probably, it depends on if the site has controls that only work in IE, I'll test it now.

Go to login.live.com and enter your MS account

Yah, I can get in. From there, if you are pending a pw reset, it will prompt you to deal with it immediately.

OK so I think I found a solution guys, the same thing happened to me just now while upgrading from W7 to W10 (and it also inverted my screen lol wtf?). So my password which had one capital letter in it wasn't recognised at all. Just type your password all lower case, it worked for me.

If you have a phone or a Cellular tablet you could use either to recover your PWs, maybe a classmate has an iPhone you could borrow to do it with? Unless you need to have Networking on your PC in order to accept a changed PW. If you use an MS account to log in, is it blocked if there is no Network connection?

I very nearly fell foul of this issue on a PC that is often offline. WTF were Microsoft thinking when they came up with the idea of logging in with a password from an online account?

I normally run with passwords disabled anyway, the only reason I even enter one is to access a PC from the network.
