Windows 10 on VMware Workstation with a 'fake' username

Sometimes I wish to make and post/upload screenshots and / or a short video.

With screenshots, I can remove my name using whatever screen capturing tool.

This is more complicated though with videos. Maybe users with more advanced experience know how to blank the user name in videos, but for me it would be nice to be able to run Windows (again, within VMware Workstation) with some 'fake name', like UserX

I still have an unused W10 x64 Pro retail license (upgrade from 8.1) that I might use to create a new VM for that purpose.

I wonder though whether that will work?

During setup, at one point in time I will get a "Make it yours" screen, requiring email and password.
Using my email address and pw, it will automatically use my account profile then. Obviously.

Then again, I don't know what comes next when I hit the 'Skip this step' option at the bottom.

But maybe, what I am asking, isn't possible at all...

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

First, you could maybe try to set up a local account in your system, to use for your videos and without burning a license; if this cannot work you can surely disable the VM network, before starting the windows setup, and you will be asked to create a local private account, once finished your setup you can reconnect the virtual network device.

    HTH.

After clicking skip this step you can create a local account that is not related in any way with your Windows account, You can still share files and folders with other computers if you want.

Or you set up a new Microsoft account just for that purpose - example.user@outlook.com or whatever isn't already taken by someone else in the world.

The license will be tied to the (virtual) hardware not the user so you can re-install on the same Virtual Machine (or just add your user later and then delete the example one) - just make sure you don't delete the VM.

    Hi there

with VMware there's also another little trick

If you copy a VM to another system at first boot of the copied vm answer prompt "I Moved it" -- not "I copied it" -- otherwise you'll lose activation.

In any case with local account you can have any user(s) you want -- the digital activation will be tied to your Real Ms account.

    Cheers
