    Interesting post.

I could not even get my Admin PowerShell to recognise the command quser

So Denis, you need to run the x64 version of powershell and it will work fine. The x86 version for whatever reason will not see the quser.exe

    hope that helps.

    Lee,

    Thanks for replying.

    Windows PowerShell %SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe
    Windows PowerShell (x86) %SystemRoot%\syswow64\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe
Both give the same response [run as Std & as Admin].

The only quser.exe file on my computer is in WinSxS and is a 16-bit version.
Log off all but current user-quser-16-bit-tool.png

My PowerShell Version is 5.1 i.e. the standard version.
Log off all but current user-psversion.png

    I have Windows 10 Home x64 Version 22H2 Build 19045.2846
MSLearn describes QUser as a Server tool. Perhaps it only exists in Server & Pro.
Do you have Pro? Where is your QUser.exe file?

    Oh, and welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

S Denis, I guess I made an assumption, yes you need to be running pro version most likely. That's all I have ever used but I suppose other editions might not have it included. Regardless this should all be a non issue for you unless you were actually needing this functionality out of windows. Seems as though most don't or id assume Microsoft would address it with an actual feature that would allow this or a GPO option of some sort that would allow this. Cheers!

    Lee,

Thanks for that. I'll add it to my list of commands that are in Pro but not in Home:

    QUser

    AuditPol

    Msg

and GPResult in Pro has an H switch that the Home version of the command does not have.

    [Pro GPResult /H F:\Wherever\GPResult.html Home GPResult /V >F:\Wherever\GPResult.txt]

    All the best,

Just for a reference, I think this list may also contain some of the Commands (including 'query', 'msg', 'quser' aka 'query user') which may only be available in PRO.
('quser' or 'query user' works from Admin Command Prompt as well as Powershell Console in PRO).

Sorry, try this link first; and then click "Download PDF" on the left at the bottom.

    Thanks for the link.

It had not occurred to me to ask before but please would you, in Windows 10 Pro, open an Admin cmd window and enter the word
    Help
    or
    Help >F:\Whatever\ProCmdsList.txt
then post the output. Comparing it to the Home equivalent might reveal the Pro-only commands.
    HomeCmdsList.txt

Denis; the "Help" list on PRO is identical bit-for-bit with your list. "Some" of the relevant Commands which relate to PRO seem to be listed under the Sub-Section titled "Commands by Server role" on page 24 of the pdf I linked to.
Last edited by das10; 06 May 2023 at 13:24. Reason: Correction: Only some of the Server Role Commands are available in PRO !
